Description

Be part of this adventure program, specifically focused on kayaking and hiking in natural parks and other diverse natural environments of interest. Many other outdoor activities such as bird watching, snorkeling, caving and horseback riding are also included. In addition, this program is also a mixture of history and culture while touring through three heritages cities in Cuba.

Activities:
  • After breakfast, visit to the Antonio Núñez Jiménez Foundation to learn about Cuban nature, the conservation of biodiversity and a guided visit to the museum where you can appreciate Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez’s private collection. Explore the beautiful historical city of Havana – a UNESCO World Heritage Site - with its most important sights such as Capitolio, Calle Obispo, Plaza de Armas, Castillo de la Fuerza Real, El Templete, Castillo de la Fuerza Real, and Cathedral square. Before enjoying lunch in a private restaurant, visit to the National Museum of Natural History and a craft market. After lunch, drive towards Playa Larga, visit the Crocodile Reproduction and Breeding Center and meet the kayak instructor. Dinner will be served in the accommodation in Playa Larga at the Bay of Pigs.

Activities:
  • After breakfast, drive to Salinas de Brito at the southwestern side of the Bay of Pigs in Zapata Peninsula. This route is a harmonious combination of natural delights. Enjoy a road that parallels the western shore of the Bay of Pigs.

  • On the way, you will go through several wooded areas and enjoy different types of vegetation, alongside some large but very shallow lakes, where several species of birds live. Along this route, you may also see some endemic species. You will continue your trip in a kayak, paddling across mangroves and cays with sandy beaches. The trip include other cays, as well, so you can see different species of iguanas, jutías and crocodiles in their natural habitat. Lunch will be provided in the area.

  • In the afternoon head to Cienfuegos with a stopover at Museo de Playa Girón, dedicated to the Cuban victory against the Bay of Pigs mercenary invasion financed by the United States government in April of 1961. Cienfuegos called the pearl of the south is a UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site. Stroll over the main square to the nostalgic Terry Theatre where Caruso and Sarah Bernhardt once performed.

  • Later, visit “Palacio de Valle” on the peninsula Punta Gorda the former residential area with its typical wooden houses. Dinner in the accommodation.

Activities:
  • In the morning launch the kayaks and start paddling in the Bay of Cienfuegos. Enjoy a panoramic view and visit of Castillo de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles de Jagua, a fortress erected in 1745 for protection against Caribbean pirates, corsairs and buccaneers. After the visit, paddle from the Jagua Fortress to Rancho Cristal, a private restaurant for lunch, passing by El Perché, a fishermen neighborhood.

  • Afterwards drive to Hotel Hanabanilla and enjoy the Lago Hanabanilla’s wonderful view after check in and during dinner. This beautiful intra-mountainous lake is 364 meters above sea level and has an approximate surface area of 15 square kilometers.

Activities:
  • After Breakfast at Hotel Hanabanilla launch the kayaks into the lake to paddle towards the amazing Cascada Los Helechos to swim under the waterfall Afterwards, paddle towards Río Negro, another beautiful spot located half way down the lake. Opportunity to walk the short path El Mirador that leads to a higher spot with a magnificent view over the lake. Lunch at the Río Negro Restaurant. After lunch, kayak across the lake and beside its steep mountains rising up from the shoreline back to Hotel Hanabanilla. Drive to Guajimico. Villa Guajimico Resort, in the central south coast, is a hidden inlet paradise, full of vegetation, attractive forests, caves and small hidden beaches. This atmosphere of pure nature with a stable and pleasant climate the whole year complements with quiet waters and sea bottoms where corals inhabit, which make it ideal for the practice of nautical and diving activities and full relaxation. In the afternoon a short paddle on the Caribbean Sea to enjoy the sunset from the water. Dinner at Villa Guajimico Restaurant.

Activities:
  • Today paddle on the Caribbean Sea to an isolated beach with rock cliffs on both sides. Beach time and snorkeling in the coral reef. Paddle back to Villa Guajimico resort. Drive to Hacienda La Vega Restaurant for lunch. Hacienda La Vega, a rural cattle farm surrounded by fruit trees is an ideal place to enjoy Creole food. After lunch, opportunity to horseback ride along 5 km to Caleta de Castro, a small cove with a sand reef where there will be free time for a quick swim.

  • In the afternoon drive to Trinidad, another declared UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Site. City tour in the historical center of the city with the most important spots and visit La Canchánchara, a mansion, built in 1723 that sells special drinks typical of the city. Dinner at a private restaurant and in the evening a visit to the Casa de la Música.

Activities:
  • After breakfast, paddle down Guaurabo River until the fishermen village La Boca, at the mouth of the river. From this place, Hernán Cortés sailed in 1518 towards Mexico to conquer the Aztec empire, reason why that maritime region participated actively and directly in the new discoveries of Mexico. Continue paddling until María Aguilar Beach in Peninsula Ancón. Beach time and snorkeling! Lunch in a private restaurant.

  • After lunch, drive towards Havana with a stop in Santa Clara to visit the Che Guevara Memorial.

    Important:

    The mausoleum of Che Guevara is closed on Mondays and can be closed on other days without prior notice. Caribbean Tours assumes no guarantee for the opening times. However, the monumental memorial itself with an imposing statue of Che alone is worth a visit.
